Common Types of Eating Disorders

  • It is characterized by an abnormally low body weight, an intense fear of gaining weight, and a distorted perception of weight.

  • Anorexia has the highest fatality rate of any mental illness.

  • It is characterized by eating large amounts of food with a loss of control over the eating, and then purging.

  • Only 6% of those with bulimia seek treatment.

  • It is characterized by frequently consuming large amounts of food and being unable to stop eating.

  • 3.5% of women struggle with binge eating.
